Gig Alerts are your personal radar on bidToGig — they notify you the moment a new gig is posted that matches what you're looking for. The better you tune your alerts, the less noise and more signal you receive.
WHAT ARE GIG ALERTS?
There are two types of Gig Alerts on bidToGig:
Recommended Gig Alerts:
BidToGig automatically analyses your profile, bidding history, skills, and activity to surface gigs we think you'd be a great fit for. No configuration needed — the platform learns your preferences over time. You can enable or disable Recommended Gig Alerts in your Notification Settings.
Keyword Gig Alerts:
You set these yourself. When a new gig is posted and its title or description contains an exact match to your keyword, you get notified instantly. Keyword alerts give you precision control over what lands in your inbox.
HOW TO SET UP A KEYWORD GIG ALERT
- Go to Dashboard → Gig Alerts.
- Click the "Add keyword gig alert" button.
- Type your keyword (2–50 characters) in the input field.
- Click "Create Alert". Your alert is now live — you'll be notified every time a matching gig is posted.
You can create up to 10 keyword alerts at a time.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT KEYWORDS
Your keyword strategy is everything. Here's how to think about it:
Be specific for precision:
Specific keywords (e.g. "fence installation", "logo design", "IKEA assembly") return fewer but highly relevant gigs. Use these when you only want to be notified about gigs squarely in your wheelhouse.
Be broader for volume:
Broader keywords (e.g. "painting", "cleaning", "web") cast a wider net and deliver more matches. Useful if you want steady flow and are comfortable scanning a range of gigs.
Use single-word keywords for flexible matching:
Because alerts match any gig title or description containing your keyword, shorter terms like "plumber", "editor", or "driver" will catch a wide variety of related gigs without needing exact phrase matches.
Avoid overly generic terms:
Keywords like "help" or "work" will match too many unrelated gigs and flood your notifications with irrelevant results. If you find this happening, replace vague keywords with sharper, skill-specific ones.
HOW TO MANAGE YOUR ALERTS
From Dashboard → Gig Alerts, you can:
Pause an alert:
Click the bell icon on any alert to toggle it between Active and Paused. Pausing is useful when you're temporarily unavailable or at capacity — your alert is preserved but won't send notifications.
Delete an alert:
Click the trash icon to permanently remove an alert. If you've reached the 10-alert limit, delete one to make room for a new one.
Review your match count:
Each alert shows how many times it has matched a posted gig. Low match counts over time may indicate the keyword is too narrow — consider broadening it.
HOW TO CONTROL HOW YOU'RE NOTIFIED
Gig Alerts can reach you through multiple channels. To configure them:
1. Go to Dashboard → Notification Settings. 2. Scroll to the GIG ALERTS section. 3. Toggle Email, Push, and SMS notifications for both Keyword Gig Alerts and Recommended Gig Alerts.
Push notifications (browser):
Get instant alerts as soon as a matching gig is posted — even when BidToGig isn't your active tab. You'll be prompted to allow browser notifications the first time. You can also enable them any time in Notification Settings → Enable Push Notifications.
Email notifications:
Receive gig alert notifications straight to your inbox. Useful as a backup if you miss a push notification.
SMS notifications:
Get a text message for each alert match. Best used alongside a tight keyword list to avoid SMS overload.
TIPS TO AVOID OVER-NOTIFICATION
If you're receiving too many alerts, try these adjustments:
- Review your keyword list: replace broad keywords with more specific ones. - Pause keyword alerts that haven't been delivering quality matches. - Turn off SMS and keep only push notifications for less intrusive delivery. - Disable Recommended Gig Alerts temporarily if you're not actively looking.
WHY AM I RECEIVING ALERTS FOR UNRELATED GIGS?
Gig Alerts match based on your keyword appearing anywhere in the gig title or description. For example, if your keyword is "paint", you may receive alerts for gigs like "clean paintwork on car" because the word "paint" appears in the description.
The fix: be more specific. Replace "paint" with "house painting" or "interior painter" to narrow the results significantly.
